Our Programs
San Francisco SAFE's program components include:

Neighborhood Watch
Neighborhood Watch/Community Watch is the major focus of SAFE's activities. Public Safety Coordinators empower neighbors to learn how to protect themselves, their families and their property. We urge people to become involved with crime prevention, public safety and neighborhood concerns.

Public Safety Campaigns
SAFE organizes and facilitates public safety campaigns citywide. These include Holiday Safety, Red Ribbon, Lunar New Year Crime & Extortion Prevention, and other campaigns that educate the community on prevention and intervening in crime trends. SAFE also includes Emergency Preparedness education in our public safety activities.

Community Policing Activities and Projects
We believe in enhancing relationships between the community and the police. SAFE collaborates with the police department and each District Station Captain to implement community policing activities and events.

Other activities include:

  • Residential security assessments
  • Business security assessments, trainings and presentations
  • Personal safety presentations
  • Child safety presentations
  • Older adult safety presentations
  • Vehicle safety
  • Workplace violence prevention
  • Special projects and community events
  • Crisis management
  • Resources and referrals
  • Liaison with SF Police Department, City agencies & community organizations

The Neighborhood Safety Partnership (NSP):
SAFE's Neighborhood Safety Partnership program (NSP) addressed crime and violence by facilitating problem-solving with the community and the police.

NSP was a program of SAFE for nine years (1996 – 2005), and was a partnership, or collaboration, of 6 non-profit organizations that complemented SAFE 's crime prevention and intervention education services. NSP addressed neighborhood-specific crime and quality-of-life issues, and facilitated problem-solving by acting as a liaison between the communities and the District Police Stations. Although NSP no longer exists as a program, SAFE continues to provide many of the neighborhood-based and community organizing services that NSP carried out. SAFE also works closely with the partnering organizations, which include: Community Boards of San Francisco; Community United Against Violence (CUAV); OMI -Neighbors in Action; Mission Housing Development Corporation; Senior Action Network; and St. John's Educational Thresholds Center.
