Neighborhood Watch & Business Watch Groups: We Appreciate You!
Here are the groups we recognized this year at our event:
Union Square Business Watch – including the Union Square Association which created an extensive communication system with other merchants and the police to identify and prevent criminal activities. They have been active longer than any other Business Watch Group;
6th Avenue Neighborhood Watch – group has had major successes in its 5 year existence. They have built a strong relationship with the Richmond District Police Station and eradicated drug dealing from their block;
North of Panhandle Neighborhood Association – for their efforts in promoting the organization of SAFE Neighborhood Watch groups throughout their community to address crime, public safety and emergency preparedness;
Church Street Neighborhood Watch – members have successfully learned how to identify and report criminal activities which lead to arrests. They established a close relationship with SAFE and the SFPD and now remain active with social activities and working on community issues;
37th Avenue Neighborhood Watch – established a close relationship with a Sergeant at the Taraval Police Station to combat burglaries in the area, and learned more about effective crime prevention.
Parkmerced Neighborhood Watch – demonstrated that empowered residents of multiple buildings at Villas Parkmerced could organize with other residents to form a Safety Committee and a Neighborhood Watch, which is comprised of serveral community block captains. Their efforts are a leading example of how a large complex can form building and community Neighborhood Watch groups.
SAFE thanks all Neighborhood & Business Watch groups for their efforts in building stronger communities!
