Neighborhood Watch
The most effective way to reduce neighborhood crime is for neighbors
to get acquainted, and to work together toward the goal of making
their neighborhood safer. SAFE can assist in the organizing of
neighborhood watch groups and will provide free crime prevention
information and materials. If your group desires, we can invite
a police officer and/or representatives from other city departments
to address your particular concerns.
The map below represents active SAFE Neighborhood Watch groups as of May 9, 2008.
The map is updated monthly. If you don't see an x in your neighborhood and you want to start a Neighborhood Watch group:
Step 1: click HERE to download an overview of our Neighborhood Watch process.
Step 2: Then get a few of your neighbors together.
Step 3: Contact SAFE at (415) 553-1984, and a Public Safety Coordinator will meet with you to discuss your concerns and
help you get a Neighborhood Watch group started.
If you are not sure if there is a Neighborhood Watch group on your block give us a call and we will let you know!

Block Captain Meetings:
Meeting Evaluation Form [Download]
SAFE hosted the second quarterly Neighborhood Watch Block Captain and Leaders
meetings, on June 26th. These quarterly meetings serve as a tool for
networking, information sharing and problem solving. We understand and appreciate the hard
work of all the neighborhood watch groups actively working to promote safety in many diverse
neighborhoods throughout the city. These meetings are an opportunity to strengthen this
effort – building a safer city means building safer neighborhoods and now is the time to work
together.
- Represent your Neighborhood Watch and your block at this crime prevention advisory meeting.
- Discover how SAFE is working with NERT to prepare individuals and blocks for the “BIG ONE”. Is your neighborhood ready for a disaster?
- Learn about what other Neighborhood Watch groups are doing to address crime, safety and quality-of-life issues in their district.
- Connect with nearby Neighborhood Watch groups that are looking to expand their reach and organizing efforts for safer, more empowered, and more cohesive communities.
- Contribute to a larger public safety effort with SAFE which will enhance our community policing efforts and stay connected with the activities of our groups.
If you have a Neighborhood Watch Sign.... these meetings are especially important - we want our groups to remain active and involved. The next meeting will be in September 2008. Stay tuned for more information
Block Captain Information
Block Captain Survey [Download]
In order for SAFE to accurately connect with our current Neighborhood Watch Block Captains and leaders, we would like you
to send us your contact information including your name, address, phone number, email address, and police district.
Please send email to SAFEleaders@sfsafe.org.
Survey Results:
You spoke and we listened! The results from the Neighborhood Watch Block Captain and Leaders Surveys are in! In an effort to get an understanding of the needs and interests of the existing Neighborhood Watch groups, SAFE sent out a survey to give us a better idea of how active the groups are, who has been NERT trained, who has received Neighborhood Watch signs, as well as what type of trainings and discussion topics the attendees would like to receive more information about. Click
HERE to view the results.
Neighborhood Watch Signs:
SAFE, with support from SFPD and DPW, will get Neighborhood Watch signs installed on individual blocks. Groups are able to apply for Neighborhood Watch signs after forming active groups. Signs are a way to publicize the efforts of your group, letting others know that yours is a SAFE neighborhood and one in which crime will not be tolerated.
If you are interested in starting a Neighborhood Watch please call
