Join the host of other individuals who have stepped up to make positive changes in their communities. The most effective way to reduce neighborhood crime and address quality-of-life issues is for neighbors to get to know one another and to work together toward the goal of making their neighborhood safer. SAFE can assist in organizing a Neighborhood Watch group on your block. We will provide free crime prevention information and materials and help you connect with resources in San Francisco. If your group desires, we can invite a police officer and/or representatives from other city departments to address your particular concerns. Check out the Neighborhood Watch map section to see if there is already a group on your block.
Step 1: Get Informed! Read our brochure on How To Organize a SAFE Neighborhood.[English] [Chinese] [Russian] [Spanish]
Step 2: Build Partnerships! Bring a few of your neighbors together.
Step 3: Reach Out! Contact SAFE at (415) 553-1984, and a Public Safety Coordinator will meet with you to discuss concerns and goals for your neighborhood and help get Neighborhood Watch organizing off the ground.
If you are already a Block Captain or Leader visit the Block Captain Information page to get information and find out about upcoming meetings.
SAFE, with support from SFPD and DPT, will get Neighborhood Watch signs installed on individual blocks. Groups are able to apply for Neighborhood Watch signs after forming active groups. Signs are a way to publicize the efforts of your group, letting others know that yours is a SAFE neighborhood and one in which crime will not be tolerated.
